Anime Stores in Taiwan; Taipei and Taichung. (2018 Updated, Active 2019 for questions) )

Looking for anime stores in Taichung and Taipei? Don't worry, I've got all the information you need!
*All Mangas sold here in Taiwan are in Chinese, so you probably won't be interested if you have difficulty reading Chinese.
*The location on Google maps and phone numbers are provided beneath each description. Time and date of the opening hours can be found on Google maps as well. Opening hours of individual stores in Taipei City Mall may vary.
*All images shown are from different stores.

In Taipei:

Taipei City Mall - Underground Mall Section Y18-21
Taipei City Mall is just located right when you arrive at Taipei via High Speed Rail or the MTR. There are multiple entrances which leads underground, with maps of the underground layout in those entrances and throughout the underground mall. It is a huge place which contains many sections, which are grouped by alphabets with a combination of numbers. Most anime stores can be found in the Y section area number 18 to 21. Around 20+ stores here sell anime related items. The stores here sell everything, such as Mangas, Models, and many varieties of merchandises, including unique egg machines, and items who's art are drawn by fans on Pixiv ( an online website where you can share your artwork), Facebook and etc, which you probably won't find anywhere else in Taiwan.

Ximending
There are 3 anime stores located in, or near Ximending. They are:

MagFreak Taipei

MagFreak mainly sells a combination of Mangas and merchandises. There are only two of these stores in Taiwan. The Taipei Store has three floors, the first floor which sells Japanese related magazines, the second floor sells mostly Mangas with some merch, and the third floor consists mostly of merchandises.

Index ACG
Located next door of MagFreak Taipei, there is a staircase which brings you upstairs to the store. The place has three levels starting from the second floor. The second and third floor consists of Mangas, some models and some merch, and the fourth floor contains merch, adult manga and items and has two Hatsune Miku gaming machines.

Taipei Animate
Across the street of MagFreak Taipei and Index ACG, Taipei Animate can be accessed by walking down a staircase and is in the basement level. There should be a big Animate sign on the ground floor and its huge staircase can't be missed. There are a total of two Animate stores in Taiwan. There is also an Animate Cafe here, where you can order drinks. Animate is one of the biggest anime stores in Japan, not excluding this place, being the biggest anime store in all of Taiwan. The place is huge and contains a wide variety of Mangas, merch, signed cards, models, anime albums, and some egg machines. You definitely don't want to miss this store when coming to Taipei!

That is all the anime stores I can find in Taipei, and next up in Taichung,

In Taichung:
If you search online for anime stores here, you'll probably only find two or three stores. I'm going to introduce five stores, which took quite an effort for me to find.

Feng Chia Night Market:
There are two anime stores located in this area.

Feng Chia/Taichung Animate Store
This place has three floors, the first floor sells Mangas, magazines and some egg machines outside, the second and third filled with merch. However, when compared to the Taipei store, this one is much smaller and doesn't have a cafe of its own. There is a section on the second floor dedicated to Love Live fans, so be sure to come to visit if you're one of them. This is also the first ever anime store that I've visited.
They have recently moved to Yi Chong from Feng Chia:

Mansai Anime World
I've yet to visit this place, but I do know that it is located upstairs, on the second floor and above. This place sells Mangas, and probably some merch as well.

Yizhong Street Night Market:
There are three anime stores here, two which are in the night market and one which is a walking distance away from the market.

MagFreak Taichung
This place has two floors, the ground level and a basement level. The ground floor sells Japanese magazines and some manga, and some anime merch. The basement consists only Manga and anime magazines.
雜誌瘋台中店
No. 46-5, Yucai North Road, North District, Taichung City, 404

捷比漫畫便利屋
For your information, this place doesn't have an English name. Located just south of MagFreak Taichung, this place has four floors, a sub-basement, basement, ground and second floor. This place has the most egg machines out of the five in Taichung. The sub-basement contains just egg machines, the basement consists of merch and some fanmade merch artists from Facebook/Pixiv and etc. The first and second floor sells some models and mainly consists of Mangas.
捷比漫畫便利屋

Tokyocomics Store
Located further south and out of the night market, south of Taichung Park, this place has two floors containing mainly Mangas and a small amount of anime merch.

  1. Hi, Thank God I've found your blog about anime stores in Taiwan. Apparently some of the stores are permanently closed (I was searching on the google map and this gave me this information). I will surely visit this store and since I will be visiting Taichung I should also visit those stores. :) Thank you again <3

    1. You can try to look around for second hand shops. There are actually plenty of these laying around the place but some are harder to find. (you could easily walk past one without noticing).

    2. I'm not quite familiar with Mandarake or Jungle of Japan, so I can't really help you there.
